MapleStory Classic Tier List: Best Class for How You Play
There's no single best class in Classic. So we ranked all 10 jobs four ways: solo grinding, bossing, party play and how forgiving they are for new players.
β Checked Oct 19, 2026Level 70, 1st + 2nd job, launch build. Likely We re-rank after launch.
Quick picks
πΊοΈ Solo grinding
Leveling alone: how fast you clear a map full of monsters, how much damage you can take, and how much your potions cost.
Fire/Poison WizardBig group damage, but drinks mana and folds if mobs reach you.
SpearmanTanky and solid group damage, a step behind Fighter and Page.
CrossbowmanLong range and decent group damage, a bit slower than Hunter.
Ice/Lightning WizardGroup spells are weak until 3rd job.
BanditStrong hits, but mostly one target at a time and up close.
AssassinNo attack that hits several monsters in 2nd job, and restocking stars costs mesos.
ClericNo group attack except Heal on undead. Painful alone.
π Bossing
Damage on one big target plus how far your mana goes, for Mushmom, Jr. Balrog and other area bosses.
BanditHighest single-target damage at level 70.
Fire/Poison WizardLow single-target damage in 2nd job; shines vs monsters weak to fire or poison.
Ice/Lightning WizardLow single-target damage; better on monsters weak to ice or lightning.
ClericLowest damage, but a huge help to the party (see below).
π€ Party play
What you bring to a group of friends or a party quest beyond your own damage: buffs, heals and utility.
ClericHeal and Bless. Every party wants one.
FighterRage raises the whole party's attack.

HunterEasy to play from range, just watch your HP.
SpearmanTanky and simple.
Fire/Poison WizardFun and fast, but mana management matters.
CrossbowmanEasy from range, a bit slower than Hunter.

Ice/Lightning WizardWeak until later levels.
ClericVery slow to level alone. Great if you have a group.

How we ranked them
Level 70, 1st and 2nd job, launch build (no 3rd job yet). Grades are our own call per playstyle, built on NiaMeowDB's Lv70 benchmark numbers (Grummash's realistic builds) plus the job data on this site. We'll re-rank with real launch data. Gear, scrolls, party makeup and the maps you pick change real results, and 3rd job (planned for 2027) will shake this up. Picked a job? Grab its AP and SP build next.
FAQ
What is the best class in MapleStory Classic?
There's no single best class. For most players Fighter is the safest pick: top-tier grinding, tanky and easy on mana. Bandit has the highest boss damage, Hunter is the best ranged grinder, and Cleric is the best party support.
What's the best class for beginners?
Fighter or Page. Both have simple builds, take hits well and use little mana, so mistakes don't get you killed.
What's the best class to solo level?
Fighter, Page and Hunter. All three hit groups of monsters, and Hunter does it from a safe distance.
Is Assassin good in MapleStory Classic?
Assassin is great for bosses and safe ranged damage, but it has no attack that hits several monsters in 2nd job and restocking throwing stars costs mesos, so it levels slower than Hunter or Fighter.
Is Cleric worth it?
In a party, yes: Heal and Bless make everyone stronger. Alone it's the slowest job to level because it has almost no way to hit groups (except healing undead monsters).
Can I change my job later?
No. Your 2nd job choice is permanent. Even fixing a misplaced AP or SP point costs 7,000 NX, so pick with care.
Will this tier list change?
Yes. It's based on level 70 benchmarks before launch, and 3rd job isn't in the game yet. We'll re-rank with real data after Classic World launches on Oct 21.
